LMS + Gmail Integration: Clean, Simple, and Finally Done
I’ve just wrapped up the webmail integration with our LMS. And yes, it’s as satisfying as it sounds.
Now, the LMS can send emails directly to users. That means things like password reset instructions can go straight to their inboxes without any extra steps or manual work. Everything runs from within the LMS, clean and efficient.
But that’s not all; I also set it up so Gmail can be used as the email client. So instead of having to use the clunky old native webmail interface (or Roundcube, which feels like a blast from the early 2000s), I now get the clean, familiar Gmail experience for managing mail. Search, filters, labels — all the good stuff.
It’s a small upgrade on the surface, but it makes a big difference for both usability and reliability. Fewer headaches, smoother workflows, and a more modern feel overall.
Just one small catch: emails sent from the LMS aren’t reflected in Gmail’s Sent folder. From what I’ve found, it turns out that Gmail only logs messages in Sent if Gmail itself sends them. So even though the LMS is sending emails via SMTP, Gmail doesn’t count those as “sent by me.” Or maybe I’m missing something in the configuration?
